Language Assessment, Referral, and Counselling Centre (LARCC)
Since its inception in 1985, LARCC has been dedicated to providing quality language assessments, information, counselling, referral, and support services geared towards enhancing newcomers’ settlement and integration outcomes. Based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), the national standard for assessing newcomers’ literacy and official language proficiency, LARCC offers formal assessments of newcomer communicative competence in English and French, provides coordinated information and presents options for appropriate and relevant language and occupational programs and opportunities.
LARCC is a partnership of two agency programs:
- Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Assessment Program funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and
- Language and Vocational Assessment (LVA) and Counselling Program funded by Alberta Labour and Immigration
Since 2017, LARCC has been partnering with Touchstone Institute to offer the Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessments for Nurses (CELBAN)
