Language Assessment

The Language Assessment, Referral, and Counselling Centre (LARCC) offers English language and literacy tests for newcomers. Our tests, based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), are accepted all across Canada for educational purposes. After the test, we will provide more information about how you can register for English classes, academic upgrading, career training programs, and more. Our services are free for permanent residents, Canadian citizens, and Convention refugees.

WE OFFER THE FOLLOWING ENGLISH TESTS:

  • Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT)
  • Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment (CLBA)
  • Canadian Language Benchmark Literacy Placement Test (CLB-LPT)
  • Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPA)

If you have a disability and may require accommodations to write your English test, please email Serge.Lebrun@cssalberta.ca or call 780-391-3342 so that we can make arrangements in advance of your test date.

Applying for Canadian citizenship?

None of our English tests can be used for proof of language proficiency in your citizenship application; you will need to take either CELPIP or IELTS. However, if you would like to take free English classes to meet your language requirement, we can help. Read more about the language requirements for citizenship here or attend a free webinar.
