FOR NEWCOMERS

 

  • Study options in Edmonton. In this session, learn about how you can take your first steps towards improving your English and beginning your studies in Canada. (30mins.)
  • Education for a successful career. In this session, learn about how you can pursue further education to help advance your career in Canada. We will also talk about other programs and strategies to support your career development (60 mins.)
  • ESL, academic upgrading, and student financing in Edmonton. In this session, learn about English as a Second Language (ESL), academic upgrading, and student financing in Edmonton. This is ideal for newcomers who are getting ready to pursue post-secondary education. (45 mins.)
  • Finding a job in Edmonton. In this session, learn about resources, supports, and training programs to help you find a job in Edmonton. (60 mins.)
  • Language tests for work and study. In this session, learn about the various language tests that can be used to prove your English or French proficiency for the purpose of work, school, or citizenship. We will discuss CLB, IELTS, CELPIP, TOEFL, and more. (45 mins.)
  • Language requirements for Canadian citizenship. Learn about three different ways to meet the language requirements for Canadian citizenship (30 mins.)

  • LARCC programs and services. Information session about LARCC (20 mins.)
  • Newcomer literacy. Learn about the definition of literacy, some ways to address literacy issues during language testing and/or in a classroom; and useful resources available (60 mins.) 
  • Professional development workshops for English instructors.
    • CLB session: Speaking (3 hours)
    • CLB session: Writing (3 hours)
