Pronunciation, Listening & Speaking at NAIT

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Improve your overall English fluency by participating in this ESL listening and speaking class. Learn different communication strategies. Practice speaking in the classroom to gain confidence in English communication. Learn different listening strategies and be able to interact in a variety of settings. Practice pronunciation with directed instruction from skilled instructors. The activities in this course will allow you to increase fluency, improve pronunciation, and communicate with confidence in the community, workplace, or academic settings. Course code: (NESL 705)

Workplace Communication and Safety Strategies at NAIT

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Knowing how to communicate effectively in the workplace is essential to becoming an active and contributing member of an organizational team and promoting increased levels of safety in the workplace. An important part of this course is understanding how your communication affects those around you. Communicative ability is not only about the individual - it's about the team. This course is intended for those seeking to gain or increase communicative competencies related to Canadian culture and safety in the workplace. Participants will increase their knowledge of communication and digital literacy strategies, as well as develop communicative cultural awareness in the workplace. Participants will also gain awareness of how their communicative abilities impact others around them in the collective workforce. Building safety-awareness competencies that aim to reduce workplace incidents caused by communication deficiencies will be emphasized throughout this 40-hour course. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will have built confidence in communicating in face-to-face and online interactions in the Canadian workplace. This course is ideal for individuals looking to increase their employability by building their knowledge of workplace communication and safety, as well as employers who want to provide their employees an opportunity for additional support. ESL Intensive at NorQuest College

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Learn to communicate with confidence in a variety of situations. Improve your pronunciation, speaking fluently, and grammar. Expand your vocabulary and use of idiomatic language. Develop reading strategies and clear writing skills to prepare for further academic studies or employment. The ESL Intensive program integrates digital literacy into each level. Language instruction prepares you for further education and employment. ESL also offers career specific ESL courses in health and business. Classes are offered for levels CLB 4-8.

Bridging to Post-Secondary

NorQuest Bridging to Post-Secondary provides an opportunity to students who need additional English language or academic upgrading courses to fully meet admission requirements for a post-secondary program.

Language for HealthCare Aide

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Students will develop the English language skills needed to be successful in the Health Care Aide Workplace program and as practicing Health Care Aides.This online, self-paced program allows students to choose when and how often they study and includes five courses that must be completed within 6 months of beginning the program. Students will learn how to take a multiple-choice exam and should expect to spend about 10 hours a week to complete the program in four months.
