LINC at ASSIST Community Services Centre (South West)

LINC

Language instruction for newcomers who are not yet Canadian citizens. LINC classes at ASSIST, focus on language development and settlement skills. Full-time classes are offered for CLB 1 to CLB 6. Part-time classes are offered for CLB 3 to CLB 6 in the morning or evening. 4 delivery formats: Online, In-person, Blended, and HyFlex/Hybrid. Pre-LINC Classes also available CLB 1/CLB 2, CLB 3/CLB 4 and CLB 5/CLB 6. Choldcare is offered for students enrolled in full-time and part time (morning) classes.

Co-Creative Space w Ammenities

Employment Readiness

The GROW Co-Creative Space a support service including access to our spacious and inspiring co-working space, as well meal prep service to ensure you are well-fed and focused throughout the workday. With high-speed internet, ergonomic seating, and a variety of collaborative spaces, you have everything you need to take your business , career, and self development to the next level.

Nurture Her: In Hospitality

Short-Term Career Training

The Nurture Her in Hospitality is a program designed as a fully-developed training course targeting the skills and training requirements of its participants to find, enter, and retain employment both with partnering employers and beyond. Open to barriered individuals, including indigenous women, immigrants, newcomers, and other women experiencing low-income, unemployment, underemployment, and looking to work.

Reading and Writing Skills at CCI-LEX

English as a Second Language (ESL)

This 8-week course is designed for students from high beginner to low intermediate level to improve their reading and writing skills. As students do reading activities, they will pay attention to the things that contribute to good writing. They will apply these ideas to their own writing by (1) learning and reviewing the basics of good sentence structure, (2) developing and using creative ideas, (3) constructing effective paragraphs, and (4) putting together larger pieces of writing – paragraphs, emails, stories, etc. – according to students’ needs and wants.

Precise Pronunciation 2 at CCI-LEX

English as a Second Language (ESL)

(Mon & Wed, 6-8pm) This online 10-week pronunciation course focuses on practicing the pronunciation principles learned in prior courses, such as at CCI-LEX, Grant MacEwan or the University of Alberta. Students will present, debate, discuss and read aloud. Students will record their presentations, summaries, and debate points and must be willing to meet with the instructor on Zoom for 30 minutes each week to analyze their recordings, track their progress, and move ahead on their learning plan. In addition, students will be required to provide weekly self-reflection recordings. Students’ improvement is directly related to their commitment to prepare for their presentations, debates, and discussions, and their willingness to evaluate their performance.
