Reading and Writing Skills at CCI-LEX

English as a Second Language (ESL)

This 8-week course is designed for students from high beginner to low intermediate level to improve their reading and writing skills. As students do reading activities, they will pay attention to the things that contribute to good writing. They will apply these ideas to their own writing by (1) learning and reviewing the basics of good sentence structure, (2) developing and using creative ideas, (3) constructing effective paragraphs, and (4) putting together larger pieces of writing – paragraphs, emails, stories, etc. – according to students’ needs and wants.

Precise Pronunciation 2 at CCI-LEX

English as a Second Language (ESL)

(Mon & Wed, 6-8pm) This online 10-week pronunciation course focuses on practicing the pronunciation principles learned in prior courses, such as at CCI-LEX, Grant MacEwan or the University of Alberta. Students will present, debate, discuss and read aloud. Students will record their presentations, summaries, and debate points and must be willing to meet with the instructor on Zoom for 30 minutes each week to analyze their recordings, track their progress, and move ahead on their learning plan. In addition, students will be required to provide weekly self-reflection recordings. Students’ improvement is directly related to their commitment to prepare for their presentations, debates, and discussions, and their willingness to evaluate their performance.
